I’ve always loved the idea of Sans sort of fusing himself with Gaster, or at least having once been a part of him. In an old-ish AU I have going on with WeirdHyenas and blackrosses, Sans is Gaster’s son and Papyrus’s older brother; this kind of goes along with that same storyline.
Sans was finally pushed to the edge by a player repeating the Genocide timeline, time and time again, to the point that he decided enough was enough. He would take THAT player’s Soul, and destroy it.
No matter what the cost.
It might have cost him his sanity, his physical body and the lives of almost every monster he once knew, but it was worth it to know he stopped the player from reaching their end goal in this timeline.
